Buldak-Style Fire Noodles

Buldak, or fire chicken, noodles are the packet ramen that launched a thousand challenge videos. This homemade version captures the same sticky, sweet and seriously spicy sauce, made with what's already in your pantry.

Gochujang and gochugaru bring the heat, soy sauce and a little honey bring balance, and a splash of sesame oil ties it together. Adjust the chilli to suit your nerve.

Add a slice of cheese, a fried egg or some shredded chicken to make it a meal.

  • Toasted sesame seeds, nori strips and sliced spring onion, to serve

  3. Add the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce and honey and stir for 1 minute until bubbling.
  4. Add the noodles and 3 tbsp cooking water and toss for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is thick, sticky and coats every strand.
  5. Turn off the heat, add the sesame oil and cheese, if using, and toss. Top with sesame seeds, nori and spring onion.
